DAY 01: Arrival in Paro and Drive to Thimphu (1.5 hours)

Paro, often the first city visitors encounter in Bhutan, is a standout destination whose charm extends well beyond the country’s borders. This picturesque town is a bucket-list destination for many exploring the Himalayan region. Seamlessly blending spirituality, natural beauty, and cultural heritage, Paro captivates both nature lovers and culture enthusiasts alike.

  • Journey to Thimphu (1.5 hours).

From Paro, we embark on a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital city. The route follows the Paro River to Chuzom, where it merges with the Thimphu River, guiding us to the heart of Thimphu. Along the highway, enjoy stunning views of landmarks and villages, such as the Paro Airport Birds Eye Viewpoint, Bondey, Shaba, and Isuna, before passing through Thimphu’s welcoming gate.

  • Highlights Along the National Highway:
  • Paro Airport Birds Eye Viewpoint: Begin your journey with a stop here for breathtaking panoramic views of Paro Airport, Rinpung Dzong, Ta Dzong (National Museum), the Paro Chu (River), and the stunning Paro Valley.
  • Tachogang Lhakhang: Pause for a short walk across the Paro River or enjoy stunning roadside views, depending on your arrival time.
  • Chuzom: This tri-junction marks the confluence of the Paro and Thimphu rivers and connects highways to Thimphu, Paro, Haa, and Phuentsholing. Take a moment to admire the portraits of Bhutan’s King and Queen at this iconic spot.

Day 02: Thimphu Sightseeing

Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, is a unique blend of modernity and tradition, where commerce, religion, and government intersect. The city is known for being the only capital in the world without traffic lights, with officers managing traffic during peak hours. Despite its modern amenities, including restaurants, shopping centers, and internet cafes, Thimphu retains its rich cultural heritage.

  • Buddha Point: Begin the day with a visit to the Buddha Dordenma statue, located in Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park, offers panoramic views of Thimphu valley.
  • National Memorial Chorten: Then, head to the National Memorial Chorten, built in the memory of the Third King of Bhutan, this temple is an iconic monument where visitors often see Bhutanese people circumambulating. It honors the king, regarded as the father of modern Bhutan and the temple is dedicated for the world peace.
  • Folk Heritage Museum: Established in 2001, this museum offers insights into Bhutanese culture, offering a glimpse of how people lived in remote areas of the country.
  • School of Arts and Crafts: The School of Arts and Crafts is another stop, where students master 13 traditional Bhutanese art techniques. You can witness live carvings, paintings, and sculptures. The school’s products are also available for sale.
  • Textile Museum: Visit the Textile Museum Opened in 2001, this museum showcases Bhutan’s weaving traditions, with exhibitions on weaving techniques, local dress styles, and textiles made by men and women. Items for sale are labeled with the weaver’s name and price.
  • Archery Matches at Changlimithang: Bhutan’s national sport, archery, is a thrilling experience to witness archery matches at Changlimithang, hitting targets from an impressive distance of 145 meters.

Day 03: Thimphu to Punakha (2-hour drive)

Embark on a scenic 2-hour drive from Thimphu to Punakha, passing through Dochula Pass. The guest(s) shall stop at Dochula, the road descends into Wangdue and Punakha, one of the warmest places in Bhutan.

  • Dochula Pass: This pass offers a stunning 180-degree panoramic view of the Great Himalayan Mountain ranges in the north, especially during clear winter days with snowcapped peaks and the 108 stupas chorten adding to the serene beauty.
  • Lamperi Botanical Garden: A haven for nature lovers, this park is home to many species of plants, herbs, birds, and animals. Between April and June, visitors can enjoy vibrant rhododendron blooms and spot around 220 bird species. A great spot for a picnic if planned.
  • Punakha Dzong: Built in 1637, this dzong is one of Bhutan’s finest, located at the confluence of the Phochu and Mochu rivers. It serves as the winter residence of Bhutan’s Je-Khenpo (Religious leader) and was the site of the first National Assembly in 1952. Its striking location makes it one of the most photogenic dzongs in Bhutan.
  • Punakha Suspension Bridge: Considered one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, it connects the dzong with villages across the Po Chhu River. The bridge offers a glimpse of authentic Bhutanese life in the surrounding villages.

Day 04: Punakha to Paro (3-hour drive)

The journey to Paro retraces the route over Dochula Pass, Simtokha Dzong, and passing Chuzom before reaching Paro. The drive offers another opportunity to enjoy stunning views of the snowcapped Himalayan peaks at Dochula.

  • Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility)

On the way back to Paro, our guide will take you to Chimi Lhakhang. It is popularly Known for granting blessings of fertility to childless couples, this temple offers a unique spiritual experience. Many visitors report successful outcomes, but faith and adherence to the lama’s guidance are essential. The hike through the charming Mesina villages is a delightful experience, complemented by gentle walks from the road.

  • Paro Dzong (Fortress on a Heap of Jewels)

 Built in 1644 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, this 17th-century architectural marvel serves as Paro’s administrative center. Its massive, buttressed walls dominate the valley and are particularly striking when landing at Paro Airport.

  • Ta Dzong (National Museum)

 Originally a 1649 watchtower for Paro Dzong, it was renovated in 1968 to house Bhutan’s National Museum. It showcases an impressive collection of historical artifacts, making it a must-visit.

  • Explore Paro Town

Despite its small size, Paro town offers a range of attractions, including authentic handicraft shops, Bhutan-made products, imported garments, grocery stores, and cozy restaurants.

Day 05: Tiger’s Nest Hiking and Paro Sightseeing

Paro, a picturesque valley adorned with fertile rice fields and a crystalline river, is a hub of historical landmarks, luxury resorts, and souvenir shops. The region is home to Bhutan’s most famous attraction, Taktsang Monastery, among other cultural treasures.

  • Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)

Perched dramatically on a cliff 900 meters above the valley, this iconic Buddhist site is Bhutan’s most sacred landmark. The challenging hike to the monastery takes about two hours for experienced trekkers, while most visitors spend the whole day completing the journey.

  • Kyichu Lhakhang

Known as the “Jewel of Bhutan,” this temple was established by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo to subdue a giant ogress (mythical or supernatural female being) hindering the spread of Buddhism. It is one of 108 temples built overnight, with Kyichu Lhakhang symbolizing the ogress’s left foot. Originally small, it was later expanded into its present grand form.

  • Hot Stone Bath with Dinner at a Farmhouse

A traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath offers therapeutic benefits for body aches and joint pain. The wooden bathtubs, set in private huts, provide a unique and relaxing experience for couples. This activity is available at an additional cost; arrangements can be made with your guide or driver.

Day 06: End of the Tour

As your journey in the Kingdom of Bhutan comes to an end, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, reflecting on the rich cultural experiences, breathtaking landscapes, and warm Bhutanese hospitality that marked your visit.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will escort you to Paro International Airport for your departure. Along the way, take in the final glimpses of Paro’s picturesque valley, leaving you with lasting memories of this serene and enchanting land.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Cancellation & Refund Policy
  • Cancellations must be communicated in writing.
  • Cancellation fees:
    • If the cancellation is before 45 days: 90% shall be refunded. Wire transfer charges shall be applicable as per the Bank.
    • If the cancellation is between 30-45 days: 75% shall be refunded. Wire transfer charges shall be applicable as per the Bank.
    • If the cancellation is between 20-30 days: 50% shall be refunded. Wire transfer charges shall be applicable as per the Bank.
    • If the cancellation is less than 20 days:  No refund, however date change request shall be permitted.
  1. Emergency Tour Cancellation Policy

At Echoes Tours & Travels, we understand that unforeseen emergencies can disrupt even the most well-planned trips. To accommodate such situations, we have established the following policy:

  • Definition of Emergency

An emergency is defined as an unavoidable and unforeseen circumstance that prevents travel. This may include:

  • Medical emergencies involving the traveler or immediate family.
  • Natural disasters affect the traveler’s location or destination.
  • Death in the immediate family.
  • Government-issued travel bans or restrictions.
  • Notification of Cancellation

Travelers must notify us as soon as possible in case of an emergency. Notification can be made through:

  • Required Documentation

To process an emergency cancellation, supporting documentation must be provided, such as:

  • Medical certificate or hospital records.
  • Death certificate.
  • Official notice of travel bans or restrictions.
  • Refund Policy

In case of a death in the family, we require a cancellation email and a copy of the death certificate to process the refund.

  • Land Services: A 100% refund will be provided, minus applicable bank transfer charges.
  • No Show: Refunds are not possible for no-shows after arrival.

Similarly, in case of serious illness or accidents, we require a cancellation email and hospital medical documents for verification to process the refund.

  • Early Departure Due to Unavoidable Circumstances:
  • If a guest must return or end their trip early due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g., medical emergencies, natural disasters, or other verified reasons), the following refund policy will apply:
    • Notification and Verification: Guests must notify the management as soon as possible and provide supporting documentation if required.
    • Refund Policy: A full refund shall be issued for the remaining days of travel not utilized.
    • Processing Time: Refunds will be processed within 5 working days after the request is approved.

Note: If a guest return or end their trip early with avoidable circumstances (within control), the refund shall not be permitted.

Special Promotions or Packages: Reservations made under discounted rates, promotional offers, or packages may be subject to stricter cancellation and refund terms.

  • Rescheduling Option

Instead of canceling, travelers may opt to reschedule their trip within a specified period, subject to availability. Rescheduling fees may be waived in genuine emergency cases.

  1. Third-Party Services

Refunds for third-party services (e.g., airlines, hotels) will depend on their company policies. We will assist travelers in negotiating with these providers.

  1. Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover unexpected emergencies.

  1. Exclusions

The following situations are not covered under this policy:

  • Cancellations due to a change of mind.
  • Pre-existing conditions were not disclosed at the time of booking.
  • Delays or cancellations caused by personal negligence.
  1. Changes to the Itinerary
  • The company reserves the right to modify the itinerary due to unforeseen circumstances, including weather, safety concerns, or government restrictions.
  • Substitutions of similar value will be provided where possible.
  1. Inclusions and Exclusions
  • Inclusions: Specify items such as accommodation, meals, transportation, visa fees, Sustainable Development Fees (SDF), guided tours, etc as specified in the tour package. The capacity of the vehicle includes guide and driver. 
  • Exclusions: Costs like personal expenses, travel insurance, and additional services not listed in the package. Room upgrade & change of hotels available on extra cost. 
  1. Travel Insurance
  • Travelers are required to purchase comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trip cancellations, loss of belongings, and personal liability.
  1. Liability Disclaimer
  • The company is not liable for any:
    • Loss, injury, or damage to personal property.
    • Delays, cancellations, or disruptions caused by third-party service providers, natural disasters, or unforeseen events.
  1. Traveler Responsibilities
  • Ensure passports, visas, and other travel documents are valid and up to date. The passport must have a minimum validity of 6 months from the intended date of departure from Bhutan.
  • Comply with local laws, customs, and regulations during the tour.
  • Notify the company of any special requirements, such as dietary restrictions or medical needs, at the time of booking.
  1. Health and Fitness
  • Travelers must ensure they are medically fit for the tour.
  • It is the traveler’s responsibility to consult a doctor before traveling, if necessary.
  1. Force Majeure
  • The company is not responsible for any failure to deliver services due to acts of God, war, pandemics, strikes, or other circumstances beyond its control.
  1. Photography and Marketing
  • The company reserves the right to use photographs and videos taken during the tour for promotional purposes. Travelers can opt-out by informing the company in writing before the tour begins.
  1. Dispute Resolution
  • Any dispute arising out, which cannot be amicably settled between the parties, shall be referred to adjudication in accordance with the laws of Bhutan.
  1. Acceptance of Terms
  • By booking, travelers confirm they have read, understood, and agreed to these terms and conditions.
